How Vintage Shopping will dominate the clothing industry

It's common knowledge that vintage shopping has grown immensely in the past decade. People have become more aware of the environmental problems we face. And thus we have turned to the recycling of materials to help take care of our planet. That includes clothing! Shops that sell used clothes have grown severely. People have become more interested, as the 'vintage' look has grown to become popular.

Next to local vintage shops, people began selling vintage clothes online. That business is booming. People are selling and buying their clothes on the internet on a daily basis. Vinted is a front-runner in online vintage stores. In 2019 Vinted has sold €1,3 Billion in clothes (Techcrunch, 2019). The business makes it very easy and accessible for users to sell and buy articles from each other.

Nevertheless, Vinted is not the only online vintage store platform. There are plenty of other quality online thrift platforms to choose from:

  • Depop
  • Asos Marketplace
  • eBay
  • Zalando: Pre-owned

Re-selling used clothes online is definitely not as popular as store brought clothes. By far. However, it does have the potential to become huge. People have to start appreciating this concept more. The idea is easy, cheap, and sustainable. I think that a lot of people still have the idea in their heads that vintage shopping is not good enough for their standard. This idea has to be thrown out of the window. The problem with vintage shopping used to be that it was not accessible and the collections were unstructured. Due to online stores, this is not the case anymore. No more excuses! Try it out.
